Key Wellbeing Initiatives:

  • Pastoral Care: Students from Year 7-10 participate in Pastoral Care classes each week. The Pastoral Care curriculum includes lessons from the Resilience Project, Positive Education Institute and Resilience, and the Respectful Relationships program. Lessons are centered around resilience, empathy, mental health, respectful relationships and emotional literacy.
  • Teacher Advisor Program: The St Brigid’s College Teacher Advisor Program is unique to our College and sets us apart from other schools in the district. Deeply grounded in our Christian values, the Teacher Advisor Program is an assurance that every student who attends St Brigid’s will be known, and will be cared for at every stage of their schooling life. • School Wide Positive Behaviour Support: School Wide Positive Behaviour Support is an evidence-based school improvement approach that creates a positive and supportive learning environment for all students. It focuses on teaching and reinforcing positive behaviours while providing targeted assistance to students who may need extra support, leading to a more successful and inclusive learning community. • Respectful Relationships Program: St Brigid's College has embedded the Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships (RRRR) program within our Pastoral Care curriculum. RRRR builds the social and emotional skills of students across all year levels. The aim throughout the program is to prevent gender stereotyping and promote gender equity, as well as the respectful relationships needed to prevent family violence. Improving resilience was recently introduced to the program to assist students to understand emotional literacy, personal strengths, positive coping, problem-solving and stress management.
  • Resilience Project: The Resilience Project (TRP) is a whole school wellbeing program that teaches resilience and positive mental health strategies. It provides evidence-based, practical strategies to build resilience in the classroom, staffroom, family home and wider community.
  • School Counsellor: A counsellor from Horsham Uniting visits for multiple days each week, providing professional, confidential counselling and support services to students. Students who are recommended to see the counsellor will get approval from home before they commence sessions.

Student Wellbeing Team

Wellbeing at St Brigid's College is overseen by the Student Wellbeing Team (SWT). The role of the SWT is to provide:
• Wellbeing and mental health support.
• Targeted programs/presentations to meet students’ needs.
• Advice about and referral to support services available in the community.

Referrals to the SWT are often made by staff and parents, and students are also welcome to self-refer. Frequently, contact is made with parents, and if there is a serious risk of harm, steps are always taken to ensure the student’s safety.
