What's on in Science

Unit 3/4 Biology students have been busy exploring DNA manipulation. As part of this, they completed a simulated Gel Electrophoresis laboratory, mimicking the creation of DNA profiles using a variety of dyes. Gel Electrophoresis is performed commonly in the scientific community when profiling DNA as part of gene editing programs. It’s amazing to see our students exploring the same techniques used in cutting-edge research!

Unit 3/4 Chemistry students recently conducted a calorimetry experiment to measure the energy content of biofuel, which they made themselves using canola oil. This hands-on investigation helped them understand the efficiency of biofuels and their potential as a renewable energy source.
