Our co-curricular program provides the spaces, support and structure for students to uncover talents, develop skills and work towards new ambitions. From the sports field to the drama stage, and with a wide range of extra learning opportunities, camps and other activities, we’re proud to offer an enriching experience for every student.
Sport
Sport is offered as part of our curriculum, extra curricular programs and, for aspiring athletes, opportunities for qualification in regional, state and national competitions. The program encourages participation, fitness and enjoyment. Each student is placed in one of three houses to compete for points: Clontarf (blue), Kildare (green) or Melleray (red). The House Captains assist with organising sporting activities throughout the year and encourage participation within their respective houses.
School Sport
For students who enjoy sport, competing in our House Swimming and Athletics Carnivals provide an opportunity to shine. The thrill of whole school competition fosters cooperation and fair play across all year levels, strengthening peer bonds and creating lifelong memories.
As an affiliated member of School Sports Victoria, we provide opportunities for students to represent the school across a wide range of individual and team sports. Sports include athletics, basketball, cricket, cross-country, golf, netball, swimming, tennis and volleyball.
Our outstanding success in sport has seen St Brigid’s College regularly awarded the Wimmera Regional Sports Assembly ‘Sports School of the Year’, including in 2023.
Sports Academy
The specialised Sports Academy curriculum enables Years 8 and 9 students who have an identified talent or interest in a particular sport, the opportunity to further develop their skills including the areas of Sports Psychology, Biomechanics, Nutrition, Coaching, Training Principles and Methods, Injury prevention and Mindfulness. Offerings vary annually and have included netball, football and basketball.
Camps and Retreats
School camps provide the perfect opportunity for students to experience positive interactions with each other outside of the classroom. Fun activities, team sports and teamwork challenges help to develop new relationships and deepen existing bonds of friendship.
Retreats help students to improve their spiritual, mental, and physical well-being. Students are provided a space for reflection, relaxation, connection and rejuvenation. Social justice recognises that everyone deserves equal economic, political and social rights and opportunities. Our social justice activities and programs help students gain the skills and knowledge to prepare them to be positive contributors to society.
The Year 7 Launch Camp is a great way for the students to get to know one another and develop new friendships as they come together from various primary schools from across the Wimmera.
The Year 8 Fears and Friendships Camp gives students the opportunity to further build on their friendships and get to know one another on a deeper level through fear-facing challenges and group building activities.
The Year 9 Eco Camp focuses on students and their understanding of stewardship and their involvement in not only understanding the fragility of the environment but also how to protect and preserve it for future generations.
In Year 10, students explore their possible future careers through a range of local and broader afield work experience opportunities. They also attend the Charlton Learner Driver course.
The Year 11 Street Retreat takes the students from their familiar surroundings where they participate in various activities concerning homelessness, poverty, community service and various societal problems. The students also work closely with those seeking asylum in Australia.
The Year 12 Leadership Retreat highlights the needs of the student in Year 12. The retreat focuses the students on the busy year ahead. They spend quality time with one another and share strategies to better manage the demands of their final year.
